frequently asked questions

 How much does it cost?

Costs vary from team to team. We can speak more directly about team finances once we have established what level of competition you and your child are looking to participate in. The seasonal and yearly fee includes a fall and spring program of 10 games in each season. Each team, depending on the goals of the team and level of play may cost more. Each team operates its own budget. Before you are selected to any team, a breakdown of anticipated costs associated with your child’s soccer will be provided by the team manager.

When are the games?

Games are typically played Sundays and Saturdays. Fall season runs September to November, spring season March to May.

 Where are games played?

In a 10 game season – 5 games are played in Bloomfield, 5 games are played away. Away games can be as close as Montclair, Clifton, and Glen Ridge but may also be up to 1 hour away.

various levels of competition

National level play

For players who want to advance to national level play, which our teams have done on multiple occasions, we have a program for that. This is not for everyone. Nor is it required of everyone to try to attain. For those players who want to play at the highest levels, our club provides the support, knowledge and history of having teams play at this level. We have made it to two National Finals, won two NJ US State Cups and we are committed to add to our club’s legacy in 2022. Very strict tryouts and team formations are followed to get a group of players together who have the achievement of the highest level of play as a common goal. Every player on the team and every parent must be all in 100%.

Multi-sport child

If you have a multi-sport child who wants to play with his/her multi-sports friends on a team of like minded players and parents – we can offer a level of soccer that allows your child to continue at a competitive level while maintaining commitment to other sports. Parents and player need to be realistic in how much commitment they can offer each sport.

Just playing at a little higher level of sport

If you have a single sport child that you would like to play at a little higher level of sport beyond intown and have your child be allowed to develop as a player without the pressure of winning at all cost. We form teams with that in mind.

A happy, confident soccer player, an inclusive program

The development of a happy, confident soccer player is a long process. The goal of making happy, confident players progresses gradually from a simple to a more complex understanding and attainable skills in playing the game. The Bloomfield Soccer Club philosophy that we focus on the long-term development of the player while keeping in mind both the importance of competition and achievable performance as well as enhancing the player’s love for the game and the parent’s happy participation.

Competition at various levels

We try to place teams at levels of play that will allow the player to build confidence in themselves and his/her teammate. Many teams start at the development level and through the years they progress to levels that take them as high as they can go.

What parents have told us many times over the years is that they want their child to have fun and be excited about attending practices and games. If their child can achieve a higher level that’s great, but not at the cost of fun, accomplishment and confidence.

The path to fun and confidence in soccer is putting the right player on the right team.

tryout & Selection process

Club tryouts are held annually and are open to all players who meet the pertinent
age requirements. Each prospective Club team player will be given a fair opportunity to
make the team he or she tries out for. The Club will announce the open tryouts to inform
the public of the specific tryout dates and times.

Current Club team players are evaluated throughout the season during practices,
scrimmages, and games, as well as during annual tryouts. Prospective Club team players
are evaluated during annual tryouts, special clinics, scrimmages and under game
situations when possible. Current and prospective Club team players will be evaluated, by
independent trainers, in four areas:
1. Mental dimensions (character, discipline, and leadership);
2. Physical dimensions (endurance, strength, and speed);
3. Technical competence (skill level); and
4. Tactical awareness (understanding/reading game situations).
Trainers will base their decisions and selections solely on the four areas of
evaluation.
